Doing Good While Eating Well: How Your Ticket to RARE Helps Denver!

By Eric Elkins

It’s not often that you can eat all the bites and drink all the cocktails and still feel like you’re giving back to the community. But in the case of RARE, The Denver Steak Championships on August 15, your ticket purchase supports a very special program in Denver.

One of the beneficiaries of ticket sales from RARE is Denver Health’s Newborns in Need program, which collects thousands of new baby items (and cash donations) through a series of baby showers held across the city throughout the year to provide to babies born at the hospital.

“Newborns in Need is an important program because the majority of families that deliver here live below the federal income poverty level,” says Candice Jones, Director of Marketing, Communications, Public Relations and Events at Denver Health Foundation. “This program helps families get the start they need by providing the basic necessities. Our volunteers package baby essentials in Warm Welcome bags to be distributed at the hospital to all new families who deliver at Denver Health.”

In 2018, Newborns in Need distributed more than 3,500 of these bags to new parents, containing diapers, a sleep sack, bibs, socks, hats, sleepers, baby lotion and shampoo, a stuffed animal, and a book.

“The program also provides portable cribs and car seats for parents who are unable to afford them,” says Candice.  “The program is sustained entirely through the generosity of private donors.”

Not only does a portion of every RARE ticket sale go to the program, but DiningOut Events will have a fun way for you to donate at the event (you’ll have to attend to see what it is). So… you get to taste delicious steaks and drink paired cocktails all evening, and you’ll also be helping newborns and their families who are in need of some TLC.

If you didn’t already know what’s coming up, 20+ Denver chefs are joining DiningOut Events and Stella Artois for RARE, The Denver Steak Championshipsin the Galleria and Sculpture Park at the DCPA on August 15. They’ll compete under both “creative” and “traditional” categories, and their special preparations, cooking up meats and sides, and filling downtown Denver with the scents of a summer grill-out. Meyer Natural Angus & Laura's Lean are providing the steaks, and a slew of distilleries and liquor brands will serve up the drinks.

Because ticket prices increase as each level is sold, you’ll probably want to purchase yours today.
